Many people want to lose weight these days. Obesity and being heavy has reached epidemic proportions. There are many aesthetic reasons why people want to lose weight as they aim to look good and fit into their jeans but the most imperative grounds to lose weight is for health reasons.
We all carry our extra flab a little differently. One individual may have thunder thighs with a larger butt and a slighter upper body so she is shaped like a pear, while the next individual will carry it all around the middle, in the abdominal region so that she is shaped more like an apple on a stick. The way we hold our body fat contributes to a great extent to our good health.
Women who are pear-shaped and hold all of their excess weight in their butt and thighs have a health advantage over the women who are apple shaped. They may strive more with finding the clothes that fit and they may still have body image issues but they do not have the health problems that afflict the apple-shaped women. The fat that accumulates on your butt and your thighs is not inevitably a health issue.
On the other hand the fat that accumulates around the mid section puts the person at risk for such things as heart disease, diabetes and other health risks. The predicament is that the fat in the middle collects around the internal organs. This prevents their organs and their bodies from optimal role. Pear-shaped individuals do not have this same problem because none of the internal organs are found in the butt and thighs.
In order to find out is you are an apple or a pear shape you need to compute your waist-hip ratio. Divide your waist measurement in inches by your hip measurement in inches. If the result is 0.8 or less you are shaped like a pear and if it is more than 0.8 then you are an apple shape. For instance, you can take a 28-inch waist and divide it by a 38-inch hip and the result is 0.73 or a pear shape while that same hip of 38 inch with a 32-inch waist computes out to a 0.84 or an apple shape.
A pear may have body image issues and she may resist with her body type but she is not really facing significant health risks, which is not the case for an apple-shaped individual. If you are apple-shaped it is much more essential that you drop the weight. Try increasing your cardio exercises and concentrate on consuming a fiber-rich diet with more fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes and lean protein sources such as fish and skinless chicken.
If you are an apple shape however, you do have an advantage in the weight loss department. Additional fat around your center area tends to come off much sooner and easier than the fat in the butt and thighs. Butt and thigh fat is much more stubborn and it takes much more persistence to get it to finally come off.
The type of body that you have is not something that you can control but you can do whatever is required to lose the excess fat or even better, of course, is to not gain it in the first place.
