Understanding Small Business Group Health Insurance

It’s not difficult to find small business group health insurance, but it can be rather difficult to decide what type of plan you want for your employees.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an employee or an employer, you can get quotes for group health plans. Perhaps it’s a bunch of employees that would like to find an affordable plan for the group, they can still get quotes.

One of the nice things about group health plans is if someone in the group has a previous condition, they can still be included in the group plan, in fact, it’s the law. One person cannot hold the group back from getting insurance, so if you have been turned down before, you may be able to be insured through a group plan.

You will want to look into your state laws and state insurance commission, this is where many of the decisions concerning group health insurance is made. They get to decide what kind of medical conditions are covered under a group plan and what is not.

You will have to decide whether you’re going with an HMO, PPO, or a POS plan.

Health maintenance organization is an HMO, and while less expensive than some of the others, its not very flexible either. A preferred provider organization is a PPO, somewhat more expensive but it’s also more flexible, you can go out of your network if providers, it does cost you little bit more to do so.

Then there is the POS plan, the point of service plan where you choose your physician, and yet you also have the option of heading outside of the network.

So the group or the employer needs to decide the group plan, and your state insurance commission will be able to tell you what is covered under your group health insurance plan.
