Scarless Tummy Tuck Explained

A partial abdominoplasty is called a scarless tummy tuck. This method is done by a cosmetic surgeon. Scars will be less visible with this type of tummy tuck. The best candidates for a scarless tummy tuck are those who tried diet and exercise but still cant firm up or improve the loss of elasticity in their abdomen. Pregnancy, age or rapid weight gain can cause loss of elasticity. This procedure works best if your problem is in the lower abdomen and your abdomen doesnt overhang excessively. When the surgeon removes excess skin and tightens up the muscles than your lower abdomen will look firm.

A scarless tummy tuck has a lower risk for complications because this type of operation is usually only a few hours long. If you smoke, you should try to stop approximately two weeks before your tummy tuck to make sure you heal well. Your surgeon will give you all the information you need so youre ready for the surgery.

General anesthetic or a local anesthetic with an added sedative can be used. This type of tummy tuck is not as extensive as a full tummy tuck so liposuction might also be done especially if theres excessive fat.

After an incision is made above the pubis and the skin flap will be stretched. The skin flap is stitched back into place after the removal of fat and tightening of the skin. The belly button is let in place during the entire surgery. Only a small scar will show but it can easily be hidden.

A scarless tummy tuck typically requires a short hospital stay. In fact, most patients go home the same day. After the surgery, symptoms such as pain, tenderness, swelling and bruising may last for a period of six weeks. In only a few days, you may be able to do some light activities but it can take a month for total recovery. In about 10 days, your stitches will be removed. You should try to be as active as you can once the stitches are out. Activity will decrease risks of blood clots and speed the recovery process. Its important to follow the directions from your surgeon and not miss any appointments.
