Happy New Year!! This statement is quickly followed by fireworks, whistles and a late night. Now the first days of the year are already moving fast ” how do we make sure this year doesnt fly by without really giving it a shot? Rather than setting a New Years Resolution ” why not design your 2009 to be the best year yet? You may be asking how we do that. Well ” just follow the 6 easy points below to ensure you start this year with purpose and direction.
1. Celebrate your success first! That is right ” before you go ahead and organise 2009s achievements it is best to look back and realise all the things you achieved in 2008. This is important to help you realise that you have actually achieved a lot in the past year! No success is too small! It can be personal, financial, health “related or even spiritual. Maybe you made it to every soccer practise of your sons, maybe you jogged that 2km route you had wanted to do, or you got a promotion at work, or made a garden in the back yard! Everything counts! Once you have your list ” be proud, celebrate and reward yourself for a job well done!
2. Well done on your accomplishments! The nest step which will support you in your future successes is to put down on paper the reasons you believe helped you in achieving those goals. Were there obstacles that you managed to overcome, and if so ” how did you do it? What was the key point that pushed you over the line? All the lessons learned here will help you in your achievements this year.
3. Now is the time to focus on this year. Get your creative juices flowing and write a massive list of all the things you would like to achieve in 2009. Make sure you add at least one massive goal, that if you achieved it, it would make this year the best one ever! Dont worry about how you will achieve it, just let yourself dream and write the list. Once you have quite a lot, find your top 10 that you want to focus on, that are most important to you.
a. NOTE ” it is important in your list that you actually write goals that YOU want to achieve ” not what your parents want you to achieve, not what your boyfriend/girlfriend wants you to achieve and definitely not what your boss wants you to achieve. This point is key, because you will never be as motivated to achieve other peoples goals as you would your own. Lets just stick to making the most important person here happy and that is YOU!
4. With your top 10 goals, go through and describe each one. Write down a few sentences on each ” what you would be doing when you have achieved the goal, how it would make you feel ” what others would say to you. The more descriptive you can be the better. Write it in the present tense, writing it as if you were in the moment of achieving the goal.
5. Now for the KEY POINT! This will put fuel in your fire, it will create action so do not skip this step! Now that you know what it feels like to achieve the goal ” I want you to write why it is important to you to achieve this goal. Write what would happen if you never achieved the goal. If you find that it wouldnt matter ” then you need to replace it with a goal that does. This will help you realise the reasons to be motivated to move towards your goals. Spend time on this section.
6. Finally, prioritise your goals ” select a date to succeed by. Pop the list up somewhere prominent so that you see them regularly. It is important to revisit your goals regularly. One thing to keep in mind, now that you have your list ” all you need to do is focus on being the person who achieves those goals. Dont worry about the how, as long as you are really projecting yourself as someone who succeeds in achieving their goals ” the how will come to you. Fate, God, the universe or whatever you believe in, will actually bring to you the people or things that are needed in order for you to achieve it.
As long as you are being the person that achieves these goals, the people or things will be attracted to you in order for you to achieve them. Have an absolutely successful 2009 and remember to enjoy each present moment. I will leave you with a quote from Rhonda Burn of The Secret: You can turn your life into paradise but the only way you can do it is to make the inside of you a paradise. There is no other way. You are the cause, your life is the effect.
