As more and more cultures are discovering the wonders and calories of fast-food from the west, the number of obesity cases is also fast increasing. In North American and metropolitan cities in Europe, an overwhelming majority of the populations are becoming overweight.
That said, more and more people are joining the fight against the flab and a large number don’t know the first thing about exercising to get fast abs. A lot of folks go about their workouts thinking rep after rep of sit-ups, leg raises and crunches are what a fast abs workout is all about.
Most folks that decide to start weight-loss programs on their own rely on conventional sit-ups and crunches for their abs workout. Unknown to most, there’s a more efficient alternative to these exercises and that is by doing complete core exercises. That includes the muscles of the lower back as well as the abdominal and oblique muscles at our sides.
Having strong core muscles is like having a strong foundation. It enables the rest of the body to move fluidly with less effort and avoid injury. Core muscle exercises also mimic the natural movements our bodies move in our daily activities.
Doing abdominal exercises lying flat on a floor or a bench limits the movement we could be doing to effectively exercise the abs. Laying on a curved medium will incorporate more muscle fibers while doing crunches and such in our workouts. The more muscles involved in our movement, the more calories we expend of course.
An actual study was done comparing ab exercises on a flat surface and on a curved, unstable one. Results of an electromyography test showed that a significant increase of muscular activity when ab workouts are done on an unstable surface such as a Swiss or exercise ball.
Another reason exercising with the use of an exercise ball or a balance plank makes for a fast abs workout is because the unbalanced surface entails more muscle effort. While we’re trying to balance on a round surface, the other core muscles like the transverse abdominis and the lower back get into the action- expending more calories from the work.
Employing the use of unstable surfaces also makes exercising more less boring. The more fun workout sessions are, the easier it is for people to stick to them and eventually get the results they want in less time.
