Today, worldwide, millions of people are overweight and looking for answers. If you are one of these people, your no doubt wondering what everyone else is, “How can I lose weight and keep it off?”
You probably also want to do this without spending a fortune or having to contact your support group every time you get a craving.
The answer is quite simple. A bit of willpower and a small lifestyle change will give you the results your looking for.
To begin, figure out how many calories you generally take in during a week. This is fairly easy, just look at an average day. For example:
An average days diet:
Breakfast: Flavored coffee with 2 cream and 2 Sugars (Dunkin Donuts medium size: approx 330 calories) and a muffin (Dunkin Donuts blueberry: 510 calories).
Lunch: A tuna salad sandwich with lettuce (about 680 calories). Single serving bag of Lays Classic Potato Chips (150 calories). A medium sized pickle (10 calories). Can of Coke (150 calories).
Snack: Bag of plain M&M’s (single serving size: 240 calories).
Dinner: Serving of Stouffer’s Lasagna (350 calories). Two 2 1/2″ slices of Pepperidge Farm garlic bread (340 calories). 8 oz glass of soda (about 100 calories).
Night time snack: Snickers candy bar (King size: 440 calories).
On the surface, this diet doesn’t seem excessive, but do the math and you’ll be surprised – 3,300 calories for one day! Now multiply that by the seven days in the week and you looking at a caloric intake of 23,100!
It only takes 3,500 calories to equal a pound of fat. Eat 3,500 more than you need and you’ll gain a pound. Cut 3,500 from the total you eat and you’ll lose a pound.
So let’s look at the diet above again and see what we can do. You will find that you can cut 3,500 calories a week by making just three minor alterations or substitutions to the meals laid out.
1) Substitute water for Coca Cola at lunch.
2. Skip the afternoon M&Ms.
3 – Instead of two slices of garlic bread with dinner, have just one.
By making these three small changes, you will eliminate 560 calories from your daily diet. Multiplied by 7 days, that’s 3,920 calories that you won’t be eating – more than enough to lose an average of 1 pound per week! Over the course of a year, that’s 52 pounds! And that is WITHOUT exercise!
Obviously, this is just an example and your own diet will vary. But give this a try and you’ll be amazed by the results. After just a few weeks, you will start to see the weight coming off like clockwork and this will be all the inspiration you will need to maintain your new, healthier diet. Always remember, small changes can make a big difference!
